The International Conference on Smart Finance (ICSF) is a platform for academic scholars and industry leaders to connect and communicate on how to harness financial technology. The first ICSF was sponsored in 2016 by a grant from the National Science of Foundation for promoting collaborations among scholars in China, Hong Kong, and Macao and was held in Shenzhen by City University of Hong Kong. Last year, ICSF has been successfully hosted by the Institute of Digital Economy and Innovation (IDEI) and Centre for Financial Innovation and Development (CFID) at HKU Business School.
In 2023, the Conference were organized by Faculty of Business, University of Wollongong in Dubai, and in collaboration with IDEI and CFID of HKU Business School, as well as CUHK (Shenzhen) and United Arab Emirates University. The Conference has been taken place successfully in person at Dubai and online via Webex during the period of August 5-6, 2023. This year, the host was excited to receive 50 participants joining on-site at the UoW Dubai campus alongside with the 15 presenters, and 80 participated in the dynamic discussion online.
ICSF sets its goals on promoting industrial best practices and government regulations in relevant business areas, on facilitating academic researchers to study industrial standards, theoretical advances, and educational frameworks, and on connecting industries and academics to identify and collaborate on unprecedented new opportunities.
In the conference, keynote speeches delivered by Prof. Bohui ZHANG (Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen)), Prof. Zied FTITI (EDC Paris Business School), Prof. Jing WU (CUHK Business School), Dr. Ye LUO (HKU Business School), Mr. Sunil Peer (Huawei), Mr. Gerry FAHY (PAT Business School), and Ms. Rachel WOOLLEY (PAT Business School) shared the speakers’ expertise and research in FinTech and Financial Innovation.
The Best Paper Committee this year comprises Prof. J Leon ZHAO (The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzen), Dr. Ye LUO (The University of Hong Kong), Dr. Shaokun FAN (Oregon State University), Dr. Jing WU (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), and Dr. Yiyang BIAN (University of Wollongong, Dubai). After a rigorous and anonymous selection process, the Committee recommended the paper entitled ‘Lemon or Peach: What Will Sellers Mint under Free Minting Policies in NFT Marketplaces?’ jointly authored by Mengyuan FANG (Harbin Institute of Technology), Chaoyue Gao (Harbin Institute of Technology), Alvin Chung Man LEUNG (City University of Hong Kong), Qiang YE (University of Science and Technology of China), and Yulin FANG (The University of Hong Kong) to receive the Best Paper Award.
