ABSTRACT

As economies digitise, over‐centralised platforms create systemic cyber, operational and climate risks, while many blockchain experiments remain speculative and poorly governed. In this seminar, Bill Roscoe, the director of the University College Oxford Blockchain Research Centre, draws on his new book Understanding Decentralised Systems the work of his Digital Civilisation project. His work addresses the issues that can make blockchain inefficient and unattractive to the mainstream world. The same qualities that make it ideal as the basis of cryptocurrency make it the best way to organise decentralised mainstream societies. In this talk, Bill will summarise his efforts to Reinvent the Blockchain.
